Affinities

One size doesn’t fit all

We are all individuals who have our own unique requirements, but we also like to be part of something where we feel an affinity to similar people. Most people will have had some childhood experience of being part of a group whether informally, in a group of kids that live in the same street, or formally, being involved in a sports team. As a result most people will grow up aligned to a range of “Affinity Groups” and these groups have become a very effective way of identifying clusters of likeminded people for selective product offerings.

In adulthood people join supporters clubs for a range of sporting activities; at varying levels they associate themselves with charities, political organizations, student, trade or professional bodies. The list of membership organizations is virtually endless.

The Market Opportunity

Both insurance providers and the affinity groups themselves are recognizing the importance of moving away from the “one size fits all” insurance product to explore the opportunity of offering a tailored insurance product for different segments of customers. Affinity Groups who foresee the opportunity to offer insurance products to their members often outsource the underwriting of policies and choose to focus their effort on leveraging their brand recognition with a select audience to grow insurance related revenue.
